Bei mir hat das leider nicht auf Anhieb geklappt. Das Teil installiert wohl einen Kernel-Erweiterung. Es hat dann immer gemeldet, dass es keine Update-fähige Kamera gefunden hätte.

Am nächsten Tag hat es dann doch funktioniert. Vermutlich, weil ein Reboot dazwischen lag. Als Apple-Fans, einfach mal einen Reboot machen und dann noch einmal probieren.

Unter Lion hab ich es nicht probiert. Auf der Sony-Seite steht aber, dass der 64bit Kernel nicht unterstützt wird.

Anfangs lief das sehr unzuverlässig, bis ich herausgefunden habe, dass man den Leser umstellen kann auf Hochglanzbildschirm. Dann funktioniert es auch am iMac ganz gut.

Telekom hat die Senderliste geändert und kaum einer bei der Hotline wusste davon. Die haben sogar meist nicht verstanden, dass man Entertain so nutzen kann.

Aber heute bin ich endlich bei einem Telekom-Mitarbeiter rausgekommen, der wirklich Ahnung hatte, sehr freundlich war und mir sogar die ganze Senderliste am Telefon durchgegeben hat. Vielen Dank, Herr S.

Ich bin auch auf diese Seite gestoßen und hab von dort die Senderliste genommen, mit der telefonisch erhaltenen abgeglichen und diese dann in meine kleine App eingebaut. Vielen Dank, Martin Bauer.

In meiner Senderliste sind am Anfang alle Sender in der von mir gewünschten Reihenfolge. Danach kommen alle verfügbaren Sender.

Ich hab also die Anwendung aktualisiert mit der neuen Senderliste.

Seit langem suche ich nach einer Möglichkeit die Tonspuren als MP3 zu extrahieren. Es gibt einige kommerzielle Programme, allerdings fand ich diese allesamt nicht überzeugend. Insbesondere, weil sie nicht die einzelnen Kapitel extrahieren.

Heute habe ich nun eine Vorgehensweise gefunden:

1. mit lsdvd die DVD auslsen:

2. mit mencoder die Kapitel extrahieren

Die Zahlenreihe muss alle Kapitelnummern aufzählen. Der name der Ausgabedatei ist weitgehend irrelevant, da Schritt 3 zu neuen Fileanmen führt. Schlüssel zum Erfolg war das Argument -aid 128.

3. mit TriTag die MP3 – Tags einfügen und die Files umbenennen

Ich werde bei Gelegenheit mal ein Script rumwickeln. Zur Zeit gebe ich die Kommandozeile von Hand ein.

Ich habe die Fotos in Lightroom selektiert und auch sortiert. Dann hab ich sie nach JPG exportiert. Dies JPG hab ich dann nach iMovie reingezogen und dann individuell die Zeiten und den KenBurns angepasst bzw. entfernt. Musik dazu geht auch recht genau.

Der Klick auf das Bild zeigt das kurze Testviedeo in einer Videogalerie. Oben kann man zwischen den Videos umschalten. Man sieht, dass das aus Lightroom exportierte Video deutlich besser ist.

Man sieht an den dunklen Stellen die Farbabrisse – sehr unbefriedigend. Egal wie ich die Bilder nach iMovie reinbringe, importieren oder einfach per Drag&Drop aus dem Finder, die Qualität bleibt schlecht. Der Export hat so gut wie keinen Einfluss wenn man nicht völlig daneben liegt mit den Parametern. Ich hab mich mal an den Empfehlungen von vimeo orientiert.

Das lässt vermuten, dass iMovie bereits beim Import die Fotos zunichte komprimiert.

Ich hab mir auch schon mal Alternativen angesehen, die kosten alle relativ viel Geld:

• Photo to Movie sieht schon ein bisschen angestaubt aus, und die Ausgabequalität war auch nicht überzeugend
• Fotomagico da braucht man wohl schon die Pro-Version und die kostet 145 $ Ich werde es trotzdem mal ausprobieren
• Aperture brauch ich eigentlich nicht, da ich ja schon Lightroom habe  und nutze, aber bei dem derzeitigen Preis im Appstore …

Also hab ich heute auch mal das Update gezogen und bin in den Appstore – für mich eine herbe Enttäuschung:

• Das verhält sich so gar nicht wie ein übliches Mac-Programm – da sieht Bodega schon deutlich besser aus:
  • keine Titelzeile im Fenster
  • kein prferences Dialog
  • keine Sidebar
  • keine Listendarstellung
  • Der Druck auf den roten Knopf beendet die Anwendung
• Die Suchfunktion findet nicht sehr viel – Vielleicht gibt es auch einfach nicht so viel
• Viele Icons und Gimmicks, aber wenig Information – Previews – videos
• Keine Filtermöglichkeiten
• Man kann nur Rezensionen schreiben, wenn das Teil im Appstore gekauft wurde, d.h. Anwendungen die man schon hat muss man ausserhalb des Appstore aktualisieren.

Apple – das könnt ihr besser !

I guess the reason is different encoding in LR and Finder – What a mess that there are again two different Methods to encode umlauts in Unicode.

Ursache war letztlich der NTBA der nach Auskunft des Technikers den Port an der Strasse langsam beschädigt hat. Jetzt läuft alles wieder und es gibt keine Abbrüche mehr. Aber dass man zwei Wochen braucht um das rauszufinden?

Fazit: Wenns läuft, läuft T-home VDSL gut. Wenns nicht läuft …

… immerhin gibt es eine 0800 – Kundenservice nummer. Der Service könnte aber verbessert werden, vor allem wenn die Probleme nicht mit irgendwelchen Resets lösbar sind. Was fehlt:

• Es sollten auch Techniker am Wochende da sein. Wenn alles über den einen Draht läuft, ist es nicht akzeptabel, dass am Wochenende keiner danach schauen kann.
• Wenn ein Vorfall nicht unmittelbar beseitigt werden kann, sollte ein Ansprechpartner da sein, der sich darum kümmert. Zur Zeit hat man jedem Anruf  jemand anders dran und fängt von vorne an zu erzählen.
• Versprochene Termine und Zusagen sollten absolut eingehalten werden.
• Der Kunde sollte über alle Vorgänge im Zusammenhang mit dem Ausfall informiert werden. Es ist sehr schwierig, wenn absolutes Schweigen ist, und auch versprochene Rückrufe nicht erfolgen.
• Bei längeren Ausfällen sollte der Kunde einen temporären T-Mobile Zugang kriegen. Es sollte nicht sein, dass man sich in der Not einen UMTS-Stick beim Discounter kaufen muss.

Immerhin gab es nach dem Ausfall eine für mich akzeptable Kulanzregelung.

Another option would be to spend 30$ for a DVD audio ripper. But I did not (yet) want to do this.

Aber die angegebenen Workarounds, insbesondere die O2-software hat irgendwie nicht funktioniert. Lange Rede, kurzer Sinn: Ich habe die mitglieferte Mobile Partner Software installiert und siehe da, alles funktioniert. Vielleicht liegt es am E 161 – über den habe ich noch nicht viel gelesen.

Nun ist es ziemlich umständlich, das zu starten. Deshalb habe ich für meine liebe Frau ein Applescript geschrieben, das aus dem Dock heraus startbar ist.

Das Archiv enthält auch die Playlist. So ist es ein rundum sorglos Paket geworden.

Das ganze geht so:

• File enpacken
• T-Home-VLC.app nach Programme kopieren
• im Dock ablegen
• klicken

Bei mir reißt der Stream aber ab und zu ab. Dann im VLC einfach den Kanal wechseln und zurück und schon ist es wieder da. Nervig ist es aber trotzdem.

Addendum 31.10.2009: have a look at http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/ for information about compatibility of software under Snow Leopard.

But initially the system was not very stable. Once it crashed – but did not loose the data. From time to time it refused to boot or to wake up. Finally it failed entirely. All lights were on but nothing else happened.

I contacted drobo hotline in Germany. We tried to reset the device – without success. Then I got it replaced within one day. Perfect service.

The replacement device is now very stable and boots much faster than the original one. It can happen that a new device causes problems. As long as the service of the manufacturer is ok, this is not a problem. The Drobo service was perfect in my case.

but there is a solution. I found it on http://www.tuaw.com/2008/09/08/terminal-tips-force-safari-to-open-all-links-in-new-tab/

Just open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/) and type in the following command: 

defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true

Once you restart Safari, all clicked links will open in a new tab. If you want to reverse the command for some reason, just replace “true” with “false.”

It also works for Safari 4.0.

1. I replaced my external harddisk (with 460Gb of data)
2. I restored the data from Time Machine (took 8 hours)
3. I turned on Time Machine again
4. Time Machine silently deleted all previous backups because it considered the restored data as new and tried to make space on the backup drive.
5. Time Machine did not delete the latest backup (ok, that’s good) but refused to continue.
6. I deleted the backup of the external harddisk.
7. Time machine crated a new bakcup (took 10.5 hours)

But the history is gone. The main reason is, that Time Machine lost the connection to the data which itself had restored. The reason is, that Tima Machine used the MAC adress of the computer and the UUID of the partition to refer to the disks being backed up. As I created the partition on the external drive using Disk Utlity, the UUID was different (no, I do not like UUIDs! Their benefit – if there is one – is really overestimated).

How could I avoid the loss of the history? There were various solutions:

1. Do not use Time Machine to fill the new hardisk. Use Disk Utility to clone. Hopefully the UUID is also cloned. But I did not try …
2. Manually delete the backups of the external harddisk (this would avoid loss of backup history for the builtin drives).
3. After restoring the data, change the UUID of the backup to the one of the new partition as shown here:

2009-06-03: I tried to change the UUID. It was not successful!!

However it is, Time Machine could be improved such that restoring data is the same no brainer  performing the backing.

Nun habe ich die automatische Sicherung wieder angestellt und muss feststellen, dass Time Machine die gerade restaurierten Daten wieder sichert. Das wäre ja nicht so schlimm, wenn es dabei nicht alte Backups löschen würde. Tut es aber. Da auf der externen Platte 600GB Bilder (RAW!) waren, verliere ich nun die Backups der anderen platte auch. Ich vermute, dass das ganze dann nochmal 8 Stunden dauert.

Es sieht so aus, als ob Time Machine die Orientierung verliert, weil die UUIDs nicht stimmen.

Na ja, meine Kollegen wissen schon, dass ich mit UUIDs auf Kriegsfuss stehe.

Ach ja, und aus heiterem Himmel fing Spotlight auch noch an, das Sicherungslaufwerk neu zu indizieren, und das schon während ich die Platte wieder hergestellt habe. Das kann ich nicht so richtig einsehen.

Oder hätte ich die normale Sicherung nicht ausschalten dürfen während der Wiederherstellung?

• make sure that the computer gets its system time from a proper time service
• open the System Time dialog on the computer such that you can see how the seconds pass by
• go to the menu of the camera to adjust date and time to a minute in the future
• Watch the seconds and on zero, push the set button on the camera
• It might be that there is a delay between the time you push the button and the time when the camera starts the clcok again. You should figure this out with your camera. For my 20d, it apears to be 1 second. With 5d ist is 0.

You can then check the results by taking a picture of the system dialog:

As you see, I am one second off target with my 5d which is really accurate enough.

By the way, instead of local time, I adjust my camera to UTC. This makes it much easier to perform geoencoding with myTracks or GPSPhotolinker.

Even if I am somewhat enthusiastic on myTracks, GPSPhotolinker is still very good and it will get much better in Version 2.0. Both tools are really great but they narrow the issue from different ends. I really would like to see the combination of both:

• GPSPhotolinker has its focus on photos. It provides different methods determining the GPS coordinates which shall be attached to the photos.
• myTracks has its focus on Trackmanagement including editing trackpoints. Photos are bound to trackpoints. It does not know about photos without trackpoint. Even if non tagged photos are loaded, they are attached to a trackpoint of a new track.

GPSPhotolinker 2.0 Beta 5 is very stable and also pretty fast, in particular when dealing with RAW images. I wonder how Jeff achieved this. Besides Geotagging, GPSPhotolinker evolves to a good meta data editor as well. It implements the recommendations specified by http://www.metadataworkinggroup.org.

Geoencoding

GPSPhotolinker now has a map (from different sources like OpenStreetMap, VirtualEarth …). The location of the images are shown as pins.

I can drag the photos from Lightroom directly in to GPSPhotolinker. Tracks can also be loaded via drag&drop.

The next screenshot shows the Geocoding console whis is used to geoencode the images.

This image shows the Standard (which was previously called Batch) mode. The parameters can be adujusted as shown below.

The manual mode allows to identify the location of the photo in the center of the map.  This is also very good to tweak the results of batch mode.

The single mode allows to automatically geoencode each photo individually. One can see how GPSPhotolinker interpolates between two trackpoints.

There is also a Track manager which allows to select individual tracks which are highlighted on the map.

Handling Metadata

The tool also takes care of metadata. For this it provides a Metadata pane which can be customized by drag & drop. The metadata pane is a bit small and not as compact as the one in Lightroom. But it provides tooltips for each field.

I will see how useful it is for me. Nevertheless, I have to rewrite my Geotagging Userstory.

But now: it is the first SVN-Client being able to handle umlaut characters in filenames. It worked even with a sandbox created with the command line client delivered with Leopard. You can simply import an existing sandbox with “Create from Directory”. The user interface is pretty intuitive – no, it is not really Mac like, but if you come from TortoiseSvn it is easy to use. And there is a simple way to open the sandbox in the finder: simply hit return on a directory, or use “context menu/open”.

As nothing is perfect there are some desires:

• Would like to open multiple projects in the same window
• Would like to use the finder context menu from with SmartSvn

Es gibt zwei Abhilfen:

1. Mit dem exiftool das problematische tag entfernen:

1. Terminal aufmachen
2. exiftool -xmp-crss:all= -r DIR

2. Mit den Metadateneditor in Bridge oder Photoshop (warum Lightroom den nicht hat, weiß nur Adobe selber)

1. Mit Bridge oder Photoshop in die Dateiinformationen gehen, und das Tag weglöschen
2. Beim Speichern von Jpg in Photoshop das Tag ggf. weglöschen.

Natürlich bleibt die Hoffnung, das Apple das Problem bald behebt.
